Tips for finding a little (inexpensive) romance

By Kathleen Todd,

Romance doesn’t have to break your budget.

Love coupons (with offerings such as foot rubs or control of TV remote) make a great no- or low-cost gift. Leaving love notes or sexy text messages reminds your partner that you desire him or her.

Here are five other ways you can create a special time, whether it’s Valentine’s Day and just a run-of-the-mill weeknight.

Create a love card or poem. Once you put your feelings in writing, don’t just hand them over, Todd says. Express your feelings with your voice, touch and loving eye contact. If you don’t know what to say, quote a poet or romance writer.

Love your partner the way he or she wants to be loved. You may think a nice night out and a sparkly gift will set the mood for affection, but that may not unlock your love’s heart. If you love your partner the way you want to be loved, you’re missing the point.

It may be a snuggle on the couch while watching a basketball game or taking care of household errands without being asked. It may be a relaxing massage or taking a hike. Pay attention to desires.

Put on sensual music and dance. Touch has amazing powers. So does a great love song.

Bring a picnic to your bedroom. Set out some candles and/or flower petals, wear something sexy and bring fruit or a decadent dessert. Food is provocative.

Play a game. Create a scavenger hunt that ends in the bedroom or bubble bath, or devise your own love game. It may be the most romantic, fun memory you both have.
